Knee Replacement in Israel
Knee replacement, also known as knee arthroplasty, is a surgical procedure whereby parts of a diseased knee joint are replaced with artificial prostheses, which perfectly immitates a real joint, in order to relieve pain and disability. Knee joint endoprosthesis is an effective way to restore normal function of the joint, when conservative treatments do not lead to improvement. The most common indication for this operation is osteoarthritis; however, patients with other knee joint conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis may also benefit from the procedure.
Knee replacements can be either total or partial. The decision regarding the exact nature of the procedure and type of prosthesis that will be used is taken by the treating surgeon based on results of X-ray scans. Prostheses head sizes differ based on size of joint and patient's weight), and typically consist of a ceramic head and a titanium base.
