Sheba Medical Center at Tel HaShomer
The Sheba Medical Center at Tel HaShomer is a bona fide medical city that includes over 150 different clinics, offices, and ancillary care facilities. Founded in 1948, it is presently the largest University Hospital in the Middle East with more than 7,000 medical personnel, and over 2,000 beds. The center successfully treats close to 1.2 million patients, both local and foreign, each year.
Furthermore, Sheba cooperates extensively with medical research departments at Israeli and international universities. This fruitful collaboration allows patients to receive the most advanced treatment available, which significantly improves their chances of recovery.
Sheba is recognized as a world-leader in the fields of oncology, cardiology, immunology and pulmonology. It was the first Israeli hospital to successfully perform a heart transplantation surgery and treat a congenital cardiac anomaly in a child. It is also where Israel’s first successful IVF cycle took place.
Additionally, Sheba's Center for Bone Marrow Transplant, which is the largest in Europe, is considered to be one of the best in the world, with hundreds of successful bone marrow and thousands of stem cell transplants under its belt.
Sheba’s Rehabilitation Center, the largest in Israel, also enjoys excellent international reputation. It offers in and outpatient short and long-term physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs, helping patients improve the quality of their lives. The unit has specialized programs aimed at a variety of diagnoses, including head and spinal cord injuries, limited mobility, acquired brain trauma, skeletal injuries, respiratory problems, as well as long-term conditions such as multiple sclerosis.
Sheba Medical Center also includes an outstanding pediatric hospital. It is located in a separate building, has more than 150 beds and treats about 70,000 children annually. The pediatric unit can provide care in all fields of medicine, and is also equipped with ICUs. The hospital is equipped with the most advanced medical equipment; the staff regularly participates in various training programs organized by leading pediatric hospitals around the world.
Also located in Sheba are Israel's National Institute of Epidemiology and Public Health, and the National Blood Bank. These provide the basis for advanced training for medical professionals; training centers are equipped with "robot patients", which allow personnel to train in new treatment techniques.
